Beer & Cheese Pairing Tips!

In my opinion, Beer is the new wine when it comes to food and cheese pairing. There's already such a diverse range of flavorful notes in craft beers, but when you combine it with the flavor complexity in artisinal cheeses, you can taste satisfaction at its finest!

Here are some facts & tricks that I've learned along the way:

Fact:  Beer actually has a much wider range of flavors than wine
Fact:  Beer bubbles help lift fat off your tongue, cleans the palate
Fact:  Beer and cheese have a common origin and thus naturally pair well
Fact:  Beer's secret flavor weapon is carbonation

Trick:  Don't over chill quality beer, the cold temp. will hamper the flavors
Trick:  Serve beer at 8°C / 45°F and let it "breathe" briefly before enjoying
Trick:  Serve beer in wine glasses for better aromatics and flavor
Trick:  Citrus notes in goat cheese pair with those in white beer
Trick:  Caramelized malt beer complements nutty, aged cow's milk cheeses
Trick:  Barleywine ales pair especially well with hard, cave-aged bitter cheeses

Trick:  Pair a strong blue cheese with a dark, bold ales

I'm interested in hosting cheese & beer pairing nights in/around Berlin, so if anyone is interested, please be in contact!
