Catoctin Creek Distillery: The first Distillery in Loudoun County since Prohibition!

Photo

I was in my hometown of Sterling Virginia recently and stopped by a liquor store, while there I discovered a bottle of organic locally crafted "Catoctin Creek's Roundstone Rye" which is aged in white oak barrels for just under 2 years.

I was amazed at how smooth this whiskey was. It has a strong scent of Rye which could turn some people away, but with one sip, those smooth notes enveloped my palet, and all those previous worries were totally melted away!

After discovering the news that there was an organic distillery in the county I grew up in, I immediately had to take a tour of the Distillery, and see it for myself.

I was greeted by the owners Becky and Scott and then was introduced to Gregg who was running the still.

As you can see it's a pretty small family operation. They have one 100 gallon still and several 300 gallon fermenting vessels. There focus is on Rye, and they carefully craft White Rye Whiskey, and oak aged Rye Whiskey and Rye Gin...All of which are incredible quality!

They really have there stuff together because these guys make THE BEST RYE WHISKEY EVER!!!

They just moved to a bigger location in Purcellville, where they have two stills running on site as well as more barrels for aging. Be sure to go take a tour if your in the area, and also grab a bottle or two at a DC area liquor store, you will not regret it!   Best of luck in the future Catoctin creek!!
